Police Officer John Miller was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a man for disturbing the peace.

The suspect was arrested, convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to 21 years in prison. In 1918 his sentence was reduced to 10 years.

Officer Miller was survived by his wife and one child.
