Melanie Martin is a native of Mountain Home, Arkansas, and a 1985 graduate of Mountain Home High School. She received her BSBA undergraduate degree from the University of Arkansas in 1989 and a Juris Doctorate Degree from the UA Little Rock Bowen School of Law in 1992.

Shortly after her admittance to the Arkansas Bar in 1992, Melanie became a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney and has served the citizens of the Sixth Judicial District of the State of Arkansas since that time as a career prosecutor.

Melanie has extensive bench and jury trial experience in general, juvenile, drug, domestic violence/sexual assault, gangs, major crimes, and homicide/capital cases. She was promoted to a Division Chief position in 1996 and served as supervisor of District Courts/Complaints Division, the Drug Division, and Fourth Division Circuit Court, before being promoted in 2005 to a Senior Deputy Prosecuting Attorney position.

As Senior Deputy, Melanie provides and assists other senior management and Prosecuting Attorney Larry Jegley with staff oversight and policymaking decisions, and with the development and implementation of prosecutorial policies and procedures. She serves as the Senior Deputy overseeing the office’s training programs, the Gang Unit, Major Crimes Unit, Asset Forfeitures Unit, and two of the Circuit Court Divisions. She also carries a jury trial caseload of homicides and major violent crimes, continuing to work with crime victims and their families.

Additionally, Melanie serves as the office’s representative to the United States Department of Justice’s Violence Reduction Network: a partnership with the Little Rock Police Department, which seeks to reduce violent crimes in all areas of the City of Little Rock. She served as a representative to Little Rock Mayor Mark Stodola’s 2015-2016 Capital City Crime Prevention Task Force. She has also served on juvenile justice committees, exploring juvenile diversion alternatives.
Lecturing frequently at the local, state, and national levels, Melanie provides instruction for in-house programs, to law enforcement, crime scene personnel, and to District Attorneys’ Offices at the national level regarding file preparation, courtroom advocacy, and prosecutorial protocols.
Melanie also speaks to community and civic organizations on crime-related and legal topics. She serves as faculty at national programs for the National District Attorneys Association, presenting and teaching Trial Advocacy, Faculty Development, and Career Prosecutor courses. She serves as an NDAA Peer Reviewer for the United States Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs’ Bureau of Justice Assistance.

As an Adjunct Professor at the UA Little Rock Bowen School of Law in Little Rock, Melanie teachs Lawyering Skills and Trial Advocacy. She is a Board Member of the UA Little Rock Bowen School of Law Alumni Board and was Bowen’s 2017 Graduation Commencement Speaker. She is a Master of the Bench of the Judge William R. Overton Inn of Court, and is a member of the Arkansas Association of Women Lawyers, the Arkansas Bar Association, and the National Association of District Attorneys. She served on the 2017 Merit Selection Panel to reappoint United States Magistrate Joe Volpe.

Melanie is currently serving as President of the Pulaski County Bar Foundation and served as President of the Pulaski County Bar Association in 2014-2015. She has served on the Boards of Directors of both organizations. She served on the 2016 Youth Home’s Eggshibition Committee. She is a member of the Greater Little Rock Chamber of Commerce Leadership Greater Little Rock.

Melanie has been staff Pianist at Pulaski Heights Baptist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas since 1997. Her husband, David, also a 1992 UA Little Rock Bowen School of Law graduate, is a partner at Rose Law Firm in the Labor/Litigation Division. Their older daughter, Maggie, is a junior at the University of Central Arkansas and their younger daughter Katie, is a senior at Little Rock Christian Academy. They reside in Little Rock.
