Listed on this page are the Officers of the Little Rock Police Department who have paid the ulitmate sacrifice in the service of our community.

Patrolman Jack Cooper succumbed to a gunshot wound received the previous day when he responded to a disturbance involving a man complaining of vampires at about 1300 hours. While on the scene, a struggle ensued between the man and the officers. The suspect was sprayed with pepper spray, but it had no effect.

Detective Tucker Fisher was shot and killed while serving a narcotics search warrant at an apartment complex. Another officer and the suspect were shot and wounded. The suspect charged with capital murder.

Patrolman Callanen was shot and killed while moonlighting at a local McDonald's. While going to make a bank deposit he was shot and killed by two suspects who confronted him. Patrolman Callanen had been with the agency for 36 years.

Patrolman David Barnett was shot and killed while trying to stop an armed robbery at a Waffle House. Officer Barnett was off-duty and in civilian dress, when he confronted a suspect that was attempting to rob the restaurant. While Officer Barnett was struggling with the armed assailant, he was shot and killed by a second suspect.

Detective Noel Don McGuire was shot and killed while working a vice detail. He had stopped a suspicious vehicle and questioned the suspects. As he returned to his cruiser one of the suspects shot him in the back. He was able to call for help on his radio. Unbeknownst to him, the suspects had just committed an armed robbery in a neighboring county.

Patrolman Alvin Joseph Free was killed in an automobile accident while responding to backup an officer on a family disturbance call. During his response a vehicle turned in front of him. His cruiser glanced off of the car, struck a utility pole, and then struck a chain link fence. A piece of the fence entered the vehicle, fatally injuring Officer Free.

Patrolman Lloyd W. Worthy was shot and killed while investigating suspicious activity. He had been sent to a call, but stopped to investigate a vehicle on the way. He had made a radio call about the vehicle but was not heard from again. After chasing a man behind a house he was shot. He was able to make it back to the street where he collapsed. Several passersby offered aide and called for assistance.

Detective Lieutenant Deubler was shot and killed by another officer, who then committed suicide.

Detective Sergeant McDermott succumbed to injuries received one week earlier while trying to apprehend two of six escapees from the Pulaski County Jail. He was attempting to arrest the two suspects behind the National Cemetary when he was shot. The suspect who shot Detective Sergeant McDermott was sentenced to death but later had his sentence commuted to life.

Patrolman Robert A Johnson was killed when his police motorcycle was struck by a car at Third and Victory Streets. Officer Johnson had been with the agency for three years.

Patrolman Frank E. Swilling succumbed to injuries received the previous day when he was struck by a vehicle. Officer Swilling had been issuing a summons to a violator at Fourth and Main Streets. A car had swerved to avoid another vehicle, striking Officer Swilling. Officer Swilling was transported to a local hospital where he died of severe head trauma.

Patrolman Harvey L. Biggs was shot and killed while he and his partner were investigating the burglary of auto parts. The two officers had been alerted that several men were stripping parts off of a car which was stranded in a ditch. The officers waited for the men to return and approached them. The suspects immediately opened fire at the officers and began to flee the scene with the officers in pursuit.

Patrolman Charles B. Faulkner succumbed to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident two days earlier. He was responding to a drunken brawl when a vehicle turned in front of him. Unable to avoid a collision, Officer Faulkner's motorcycle slid and went under the vehicle. Officer Faulkner was a World War I veteran and had been with the agency for four years.

Detective Sergeant Hay and Detective Sergeant George Moore were shot and killed as they investigated a dice game and other illegal activities. As the two sergeants approached the home three men opened fire on them without warning. Sergeant Moore was struck in the head three times, killing him instantly. Sergeant Hay was shot six times and succumbed to his injuries two days later.

Detective Sergeant Cabiness was accidentally shot and killed by Special Deputy Marshal Will Cross, of the United States Marshals Service, who mistook the officers for railroad strikers who were out to get him. Deputy Cross was killed in return gunfire by Sergenat Cabiness's partner. Sergeant Cabiness had been with the agency for five years.

Patrolman Thomas D. Hudson was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a burglary suspect. While on foot patrol at approximately 0200 hours Officer Hudson observed a suspect burglarizing a cafe on West Ninth Street. Officer Hudson ordered the man to stop and to put his hands up. Instead the man opened fire, striking Officer Hudson. Officer Hudson succumbed to his injuries approximately three hours later.

Patrolman Joe Erber was shot and killed after responding to a drunk and disturbance call on a house boat, on the river near Lincoln Street. The suspect fled the scene in a motor boat with his two young children but was apprehended several days later.

Detective Sam Morgan was shot and killed in a shootout on West 12th Street while he and other officers attempted to arrest a subject. The man was able to gain control of another officer's handgun and shot Detective Morgan. The subject was then killed in a hand-to-hand struggle with Detective Morgan. Detective Morgan had served with the Little Rock Police Department for 15 years.

Sergeant William I. Campbell was shot and killed by a drunk constable who was causing a disturbance. The constable encountered Sergeant Campbell and began charging Sergeant Campbell with misconduct in office and warned him that he would get him by the end of the week. Sergeant Campbell warned the constable to leave the area and not cause any more trouble and then knocked him down.

Patrolman W. T. Phillips was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a drunk man shortly after midnight.

Patrolman William L. Copeland was killed after being assaulted by a jail trusty who was on work release. Officer Copeland was in uniform walking to work at 1900 hours when he spotted the trusty standing on the corner. With the knowledge that trusties had to be back to the jail by 1800 hours, he began to question the man.
